On April 25, 2018, Associate Professor Hu Mei and graduate student Lu Yue of our school were invited to participate in the academic exchange conference held at Suphanu Fong University in Luang Prabang, Laos. At the same time, two teachers, Zhou Yamin and Zhang Ying from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Hu Shengfeng, the project executive general manager of the Overseas Investment Company of China Power Construction Group, were invited to the conference.
The conference was organized around the "Belt and Road Initiative". Professor Hu Mei delivered a keynote speech entitled "Reflections on China's Participation in Global Governance under the Belt and Road Initiative." Lu Yue from our school combined his own research background, "China's digital economy situation "Industrial Structure Adjustment and Upgrading". Teachers Zhou Yamin and Zhang Ying of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences gave speeches on the Belt and Road Initiative, global governance, green trade and other topics.
After the keynote speech, the participating faculty and students of Sufa Nuvong University raised relevant questions for the content of the speech and conducted a full exchange. Professor Hu Mei asked the President about "the same is undergoing reform and opening up, why China has developed so rapidly in recent decades": China's rapid development undoubtedly benefits from reform and opening up and embracing globalization, but China has its own unique economic conditions, Institutional conditions and industrial foundations, therefore, this successful model is difficult to replicate in other countries; however, China is willing to adopt an open and inclusive attitude to jointly explore a path of economic growth of its own with other countries along the route. Openness requires caution. Professor Hu Mei also pointed out that the current world economy has problems of "market failure" and uneven development. The "Belt and Road" initiative actually means that China, as a large country, realizes interconnection through infrastructure construction in relatively backward countries, and then To achieve the goal of promoting the balanced development of the world economy.
Laos is a country along the Belt and Road and borders my country, and its diplomatic relations are also very friendly. Lao scholars are very interested in China's development miracle over the past 40 years, and also pay close attention to the future development of the "Belt and Road" initiative. In recent years, China's direct investment in Laos has grown rapidly, especially in infrastructure construction such as hydropower stations, power grids, and railways. Laos has relied more on Chinese funds and technology. The entry of Chinese enterprises has not only improved the infrastructure conditions in Laos, but also promoted the economic development and employment of the people in Laos. The relationship with the local government and people in Laos is very friendly. Finally, on behalf of the Institute of International Economics of the University of International Business and Economics, Professor Hu Mei presented his own monograph "Research on International Industrial Transfer from the Perspective of Economic Globalization" to Sufanufeng University.
